Ada County Sheriff's employees spread holiday cheer with surprise gifts
BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — Ada County Sheriff's employees have been going undercover in December to bring people some holiday cheer.
"This year, the Ada County Sheriff’s Employee Association took a different approach for their 'Shop with a Sheriff' event," ASCO said on Facebook. "With the COVID-19 pandemic showing no signs of abating anytime soon, bringing a whole bunch of people together in the same place didn’t feel right."
Instead, deputies and community partners worked to identify 15 families who could use some holiday kindness. Ada County employees shopped from wish lists for both fun gifts and needed items like bedding, dishes and cleaning supplies.
"They’ve spent the first part of the month shopping and wrapping gifts (with essential help from the fine folks at the Eagles Lodge on Overland Road ) — and then started dropping holiday cheer to those families last week."
Some Ada County Deputies also went undercover and staked out the Ten Mile Road Walmart. Officers went around in plain clothes looking for families in need.
"When those people went to go pay, a uniformed ACSO deputy swooped in and covered their purchase," ASCO said. "Deputies eventually paid for the purchases of about 25 families.
"All that is possible thanks to citizen and civic group contributions to the employees association. We want to send a massive 'Thank You' to anyone who helped!"
